Welcome

Lawrence Park West is a hidden jewel of a neighborhood located in Westchester county just north of New York City.  It shares a post office and zip code with the village of Bronxville.  Tall mature trees line the roadways and form a canopy that shade most of its streets.  Set back from the roads and hidden between those areas are sprawling Tudors, Victorians and Colonials with landscaped lawns and well-tended flower gardens.  One of the advantages of Lawrence Park West is the size of lots upon which homes were built in the 1920’s and 1930’s.  The residents of Lawrence Park West use the Bronxville train station with its 29-minute commute into midtown Manhattan as well as the downtown area of Bronxville for shopping, dining, and the movies as all are approximately half a mile away.  The prestigious Sarah Lawrence college campus is located in Lawrence Park West.

Lawrence Park West (LPW) was originally developed by William Van Duzer Lawrence, a New York City resident, who began buying property for Lawrence Park West as early as 1909.  He subsequently, developed the first section of LPW which consisted of property west of what is currently Sunnybrook Road.  In 1916 he expanded the neighborhood to include the property on which he built his personal residence called “Westlands” which is now the administrative building for Sarah Lawrence College.  By 1924, he was developing property east of “Westlands” over to what is now Bronxville Road as the “Highland Subdivision” of LPW.  Today Lawrence Park West represents a historically significant example of pre and post World War II suburban planning and architecture consisting of approximately 300 homes.
